A Day Full of Life

We’re honored to recently be named “Most Reliable Adult Day Health Care Service in New York” by ElderCare Review. This recognition reflects our team’s unwavering commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care every single day. We’re grateful to the families who trust us, and to our incredible staff who make Four Seasons feel like home for everyone.

When it comes to daytime support for older adults and individuals with disabilities, adult day services can be a lifeline for participants and families alike. But not all programs are created equal. At Four Seasons Healthcare Solutions in Brooklyn, the Adult Day Health Care program at Sunrise offers something truly exceptional: a vibrant, supportive environment that blends medical care, social connection, and daily joy.

There are more than 4,600 adult day centers across the United States serving more than 260,000 individuals and family caregivers each day. It’s easy to confuse adult day care with adult day health care, but the distinction matters. Adult day care provides social activities, meals, and general supervision. In contrast, adult day health care adds a clinical piece and must be a licensed provider. Nurses oversee medication management, monitor chronic conditions, and provide support for personal hygiene and wellness needs. Other treatment services, like physical and occupational therapies, are also available onsite. Those with medical oversight, like Sunrise, are especially valuable for families navigating complex health needs while seeking to preserve independence and dignity.

Research consistently shows that routine, meaningful activities help older adults support cognitive and physical function. Structured programs that include exercise, socialization, and creative engagement may reduce the risk of depression and even slow cognitive decline. According to the CDC, social isolation significantly increases a person’s risk of dementia and other health complications. Adult day health care programs can help close that gap with community, purpose, and personalized support.

A day in the life

At Sunrise, every day begins with a warm greeting and friendly faces. Transportation is provided, and participants are welcomed with breakfast and time to chat with friends. The morning is filled with wellness activities, from chair yoga to fall prevention exercises. Licensed nurses are on hand to take vital signs, manage medications, and help with hygiene and grooming as needed.

Mid-morning brings the community members back together. Special programs like live concerts, off-Broadway productions (including The Lion King), and pet therapy sessions fill the rooms with laughter and energy. In July alone, Sunrise participants enjoyed an “alien”-themed costume party, a Grandparents Day photoshoot, a backyard BBQ, and fruit carving demonstrations in honor of National Watermelon Month.

Lunchtime provides homestyle meals that are tailored to each individual’s dietary needs. Afterward, there’s time to relax or join in on more fun: BINGO, beauty services, karaoke, music therapy, or art activities. The calendar is varied, the atmosphere welcoming, and the sense of belonging unmistakable.

“For nearly three decades, Sunrise has been more than just a program – it’s been a home,” says Vita Manetta, Director of Marketing and Community Relations. “A place of comfort, laughter, care, and community.”

For many participants, it’s become a second family, especially for those without loved ones nearby. Some have been attending for over 20 years. Several staff members, including Program Directors Josephine Tramontana and Christine Carbone, have been with Sunrise since its opening 29 years ago.

Is adult day health care right for you or a loved one?

If you or someone you love could benefit from daytime care that includes medical support, social engagement, and a warm community, adult day health care might be the answer. It’s especially helpful for:

  • Adults with chronic conditions needing monitoring
  • Individuals recovering from illness or injury
  • Families experiencing caregiver burnout
  • People seeking social connection and enrichment

Vita recommends a simple first step: “I always suggest visiting—see the space, talk with staff, and experience a day. People get comfortable quickly, and we welcome both the individual and their family.”
